The number of organisations with a chief risk officer (CRO) is rising, alongside increasing use of AI to help manage risks, according to a new survey and report from Riskonnect.

The global poll of more than 200 risk, compliance and resilience professionals finds that 60% of organisations now employ a CRO, up from 52% over the past two years. Risk management information systems provider Riskonnect said this reflects the rising importance of the risk management function.

“We’re in a new generation of risk – one where cyber, geopolitical, technology, political risk, and other factors are rapidly converging and reshaping the landscape. The impact on markets and operations is unfolding faster than many organisations can keep up,” said Jim Wetekamp, CEO of Riskonnect.

“Riskonnect’s research shows that while organisations are making progress in some areas, today’s unpredictable business environment demands more than stronger defences. It requires organisations to build resilience as a core strategic capability,” he continued.
