AI is rapidly advancing whether business leaders feel ready or not. It’s in employees’ hands, embedded in third-party tools, and shaping business decisions every day. Seventy-eight percent of organisations now use AI in at least one business function. In the U.S., employees who say they use AI in their role at least a few times a year has doubled in two years, from 20% to 40%.

Yet despite AI’s ubiquity, most organisations still lack important guardrails to manage AI responsibly. In fact, only 12% of companies feel very prepared for AI and AI governance risks, according to Riskonnect’s 2025 New Generation of Risk Report. Without structure and oversight, strategic innovation can quickly become uncontrolled experimentation.
