Walmart is a retail leader serving more than 260 million customers and members each week. In FY2020, Walmart had revenue of $524 billion from its stores and ecommerce sites.

Recognized for its leadership in environmental and social responsibility stewardship, philanthropy, and employment opportunity for it’s more than 2.2 million associates worldwide, Walmart is committed to creating opportunities and bringing value to customers and communities around the world.

To help meet its commitments to customers and stakeholders, Walmart relies on ICIX, a San Mateo, California based provider of enterprise software solutions for value chain governance that enable transparency and controls that protect Walmart’s customers and the trust they have in Walmart products.

How ICIX Manages Compliance Risks

The first step automates product testing management to prevent products from shipping without proper testing certifications.

ICIX software monitors each purchase order (PO) for compliance to identify products that require testing. The system is directly integrated with the third-party testing service providers to match the required test documentation for products and automatically generate the certificate of conformity (GCC). The GCC documentation is stored centrally and accessible by Walmart’s Product Safety and Compliance, Legal, and Consumer Affairs teams.

The second step automates the compliance process for shipping restrictions for products which are prohibited or illegal to ship to a specific location.

ICIX monitors ecommerce orders to verify the shipping destination of item is compliant with shipping restrictions. Any non-compliant orders are flagged to prevent shipping and team members are alerted to address the issue.

Updates or new restrictions are made centrally by the business team to meet the business’s requirements for rapid response time.

The third step verifies claims for products designated as ‘Made in USA.’

ICIX technology identifies products with the Made in USA claim and automates communication with the vendor to validate the claim and store the correct documentation.

“ICIX recognizes the importance of its role helping Walmart meet its commitments to its customers, members, and business stakeholders,” says Keith Fortson, Chief Customer Officer at ICIX. “We’re a values-driven organization and are especially appreciative of the leadership Walmart demonstrates representing its values through stewardship initiatives and active support for diversity and inclusion in its operations, value chain, and the communities it serves. We place high value on our standing as a partner and vendor in support of Walmart and its mission.”

“ICIX is a major automation upgrade. It greatly improves our efficiency and allows us to manage exceptions.” – Ken Hinson, Senior Director, Consumer Protection and Product Safety.
